Charlotte Gordon Cumming Album Review: The Brave Songs

Charlotte Gordon Cumming is the daughter of a Scottish Clan Chief and was born and brought up in the heart of North East Scotland. Her sound is unique while heralding to the underground music of the 80’s, Dido, and even Laurie Anderson. “The Brave Songs” is a ten song set and is electronic at it’s root while remaining fresh. It begins with “Steal” a ballad at heart and continues on to “The Brave” a more dance song with guitar solos and interesting choral break downs in between her haunting vocal melodies. “Sunrise” has more of an alternative feel to it being more centered in guitar and bass with police radio samples. The whole album is definitely worth a listen. It pulls from multiple influences, genres, and periods. At times almost seems confused about it’s identity and then Charlotte brings it all together with her unique voice.
